Aztec place glyphs drawn in the 16th century Codex Mendoza suggest that the Aztecs had all the major branches of geography covered.

Physical geography

Poctépec = hill that smokes (volcano)

Human geography

Teocalcingo = where the temple is

Economic geography

Michmaloyan = place to fish

The Aztecs clearly knew their geography!
